Infection Control

The Infection Control Committee (ICC) office is open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday to Friday but all infection control problems can be referred to ICC chair or Infection Control Team (ICT) twenty-four (24) hours.
HIV/AIDS Committee
The HIV/AIDS Committee (HAC) office located at Infection Control Office is open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday to Friday but all HIV/AIDS problems can be referred to HAC chair or HIV/AIDS Core Team (HACT) twenty-four (24) hours.

HIV/AIDS Committee
Is a multi disciplinary group of healthy care workers with policy making, implementing, coordinating, assuring, training, research and other projects development function on the matter related to the diagnosis, management and care of HIV / AIDS patients and the prevention and control of HIV / AIDS infection in the hospital. Its primary objective are to facilitate the provision of safe, comprehensive and compassionate care to HIV /AIDS patients by properly trained personnel, to mobilize hospital and community resources towards memorizing the impact of HIV / AIDS infection or the patient and his family and to coordinate all efforts to prevent and control the transmission of HIV / AIDS infection.
The personal and economic impact of infections acquired by the hospitalized patients should be realized. Personal incapacitation, emotional stress, prolonged illness and hospitalization and death are well known consequences of infection. The financial cost to the patient and to the hospital is considerable.
Infection Control Committee (ICC) was first formed sometime during the directorate of Dr. Ambrosio Tangco and was officially established by the hospital year 2000 under the chairmanship of Dr. Melecia A. Velmonte up to the present. Infection Control Committee acquired an office in 2001 and started to form its members represented by different departments and started to developed policies, guidelines and programs appropriate to the facilities and set-up of Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH).
HIV/AIDS Committee
The HIV/AIDS Committee Core Team (HACT) was created year 2003 as sub-committee of Infection Control Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Melecia A. Velmonte and the team is represented by the members from Blood Transfusion Committee, Nursing Service, Laboratory, and Social Service Departments. Last February 16, 2005 HACT was officially established by the hospital and made it as one of the Hospital Committee and Office at the Infection Control Committee.

The Infection Control Committee (ICC) performs the following functions:
- Formulates and update infection control policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Ensures implementation of infection control policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Allocates/ensure availability of resources and contingencies for infection control Program.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the infection control program.
- Prepares and review the progress of the annual program of activities.
- Disseminates the necessary information and coordinate with medical, nursing, administration, other hospital committees and other appropriate government agencies.
- Oversees the performance of the Infection Control Team (lCT).
- Approves infection control training modules.
- Defines the objectives and priorities for all surveillance activities on healthcare associated infection, including time frame, areas and patient population to be studied.
- Sets the surveillance method to be utilized in achieving goals and objectives.

HIV/AIDS Committee Policies
- Administrative / General
- All Request or referrals should be relayed through telephone or SMS or Inter Office Letter.
- Appointments
- Appointments to the Committee Chairs shall be coursed through the HAC office located at Infection Control Office (ICC) office or personal communication.
- Information
- Inquires on all aspect of the committee shall be coursed through the HAC office located at ICC Office unless urgent in which case the HAC chair or any HACT members can be contacted directly through the operator or SMS.
- Communication
- All documented communications shall be coursed through the HAC office located at ICC office. Incoming communications/letters shall be received and duly logged by the ICN. Outgoing communications/letters shall be forwarded to the designated addressee and shall duly be received by the party concerned and logged by the messenger.
- Complaints
- Complains coming from the different departments shall be taken actions with HACT with respective departments, units, areas or services concerned.
- Filing, Records, and Minutes of Meetings
- HAC and other assigned meetings – taking of minutes of meetings for these meetings is the responsibility of the appointee of the committee chair to take the minutes. After being edited by the HAC chairman, copies of the minutes and tasks list are distributed to concerned members and officers with in the week. A master file of the approved minutes is maintained at the HACT office.
- Request for Certificates
- The office of the HAC issues the following certificates:
- Certificates of attendance for conferences, training and seminars.
- Requests for this certificate can be coursed through the ICN.
