History  Back to top

The Eye Care Service had its beginnings in 1979 as a contribution of the Department of Ophthalmology towards the modernization of Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH). Initially called “The Laser Room:” this center was envisioned to contain all sophisticated and state-of-the-art equipment relevant in the practice of Ophthalmology. The initial facilities acquired under the sponsorship of the Metrobank Foundation, were the first in the country and were made available to all Ophthalmology consultants and trainees for proper diagnoses/analyses of the different ophthalmologic diseases.

In October 2002, the hospital acquired the Humphrey Perimeter, a state of the art automated Perimeter for visual fields testing. In its pursuit to continuously upgrade its facilities and services, the OTI Scan 1000 was acquired, and made functional in 2006. This machine is capable of both A and B scan Ophthalmic Ultrasonography as well as 3-Dimensional Ultrasound.

The Eye Care Services has its permanent location at the ground floor of the Norberto Ty Medical Tower building. The Center also boast with the Hospital Information System which makes our records more secure and accurate.
